Hacking attempts targeting South Korea’s court network increase this year, with about 239,145 cases reported between January and August, according to data cited by Yonhap and The Korea Times.
The figures show the first eight months of 2024 at roughly 2.4 times the level recorded in the same period last year, when 101,205 attempts were reported. Both outlets also cite court data submitted to Rep. Kim Dong-ha of the ruling Democratic Party and present broader recent-year totals for context.
By month, both reports point to March as the peak month, with 48,263 hacking attempts, followed by May (39,915) and June (34,083). For yearly totals in recent years, the data cited by The Korea Times shows 2024’s figure for all of last year rising interest in the trend: 142,514 in 2021, 126,212 in 2022, 114,070 in 2023 and 98,171 cases in 2024. Yonhap frames the spike using the same early-2024 cumulative figure.
