The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it intercepts cannabis and codeine-based cough syrup consignments worth about N5 billion at ports in Lagos and Rivers states.
In statements cited by multiple outlets, the NDLEA says the seizures occur at facilities including Apapa and Tin Can Island in Lagos and the Onne port in Rivers state. The agency attributes the action to intelligence gathering and tracking of the shipments. One report specifies the cannabis as “Loud,” a potent strain, while others describe it more generally as cannabis.
While the outlets align on the amount seized and the broad locations, they differ slightly in wording and emphasis—for example, how they describe the cannabis variety and the phrasing of the ports involved. All reports frame the interdictions as drug seizures carried out by NDLEA at seaports rather than arrests of individuals in connection with the consignments.
