Eight members of Zamfara State House of Assembly resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying they can no longer remain in the party amid worsening insecurity and grievances over alleged non-payment of salaries and allowances. The lawmakers list insecurity in their constituencies, including rural communities, and describe “injustice” as additional reasons for leaving.

In the statements reported by Nigerian Eye and The Punch, Aliyu Kagara says the lawmakers have gone about 32 months without receiving salaries, allowances and other entitlements. They also criticise the Dauda Lawal-led state administration for failing to give adequate attention to security challenges.

APC officials respond that they have not received official resignation letters. Nigerian Eye reports that the APC publicity secretary says the party has only seen the resignation claims on social media and is waiting for correspondence through the lawmakers’ ward and local government channels. Separately, Vanguard reports conflicting figures and outcomes in related coverage, describing nine lawmakers who “dump” APC and, in another report, nine who “defect” to APC, underscoring uncertainty or differing accounts about the exact membership and direction of party moves.
