Suncor Energy Inc. has signed an agreement to sell a group of non-core offshore oil and gas stakes on Canada’s East Coast to Ithaca Energy plc, for consideration of up to C$1.55 billion.
Under the deal, Ithaca is set to pay C$1.2 billion upfront and assume C$1.9 billion in liabilities associated with the Terra Nova, White Rose and West White Rose fields. Reporting notes that the transaction represents a significant pullback by Suncor from an offshore region where it has been active for decades. Other outlets describe the assets as non-core and frame the sale as part of a broader repositioning of Suncor’s portfolio.
Across coverage, the main focus is on the asset bundle and the deal structure—an upfront payment combined with Ithaca’s assumption of liabilities—rather than changes to operating plans in the near term. The reporting consistently links the transaction to stakes in the three named East Coast projects and to Ithaca as the purchaser.
