Jagex removes a RuneScape 3 trailer shown at RuneFest 2026 after complaints that the video used generative AI imagery. Multiple outlets report that Jagex pulls the upload shortly after concerns are raised, and that the footage is tied to the Dragon Slayer II quest, part of the RuneScape 3 storyline slated for 2027.
In its response, Jagex says it does not use generative AI to create its games, artwork, or other creative assets, and states it will not knowingly allow such tools to be used on its behalf. Jagex also attributes the problematic elements to a “trusted external partner,” according to reporting from GamesIndustry.biz and Rock Paper Shotgun. Kotaku describes Jagex’s actions as an urgent investigation, and includes the company’s assertion that it will not knowingly permit genAI use.
Outlets differ mainly in emphasis: some focus on the speed of the takedown and the “urgent” investigation framing, while others highlight the specific in-trailer imagery that prompted public attention and Jagex’s decision to involve an external vendor explanation.
