Microsoft and Meta are both reducing internal use of Anthropic’s Claude, according to a report by The Information. The outlets say the companies encourage employees to rely more on their own, in-house AI products rather than Claude tools for internal tasks.
Microsoft has reportedly shifted staff toward offerings such as GitHub Copilot and other Microsoft AI integrations. The reporting also states Microsoft was previously tracking toward spending about $1 billion this year on internal use of Anthropic technology, but that projected amount is later described as being cut by roughly one-third. Coverage notes Microsoft’s internal Claude uses include tools such as Claude Code and Anthropic model offerings within Copilot, as well as “Claude Mythos.”
At Meta, reporting indicates fewer employees are using Claude Code, with the number dropping from around 60,000 earlier in the year to about 30,000. Sources cited in the report attribute the decline largely to increased adoption of Meta’s alternatives, including Muse Code and an internal tool called MetaCode. The changes matter to Anthropic because both companies are among its biggest corporate customers, and the outlets frame the pullback as a headwind for Anthropic’s growth.
