Support staff at the Port Harcourt Refining Company in Eleme, Rivers State, threaten a total shutdown after seven months of unpaid salaries and the non-implementation of an approved pay structure. Multiple outlets report workers stage protests at the refinery and issue demands to NNPCL management.
The workers’ concerns include both arrears and pay reforms. They say NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer has approved a new salary structure and remuneration package due to take effect on October 1, 2026, but that it has not been implemented. They also demand a one-time ₦1 million housing/rent relief and cite hardship linked to the delayed payments.
Outlet accounts converge on an ultimatum period, reporting the workers give management 48 hours to meet their demands or face a shutdown and denial of access to the premises. The reports describe the protest disrupting activities temporarily and include workers’ call for higher-level intervention. As of the latest reports, NNPCL has not issued a public response to the ultimatum.
