Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar postpones a planned two-day visit to Chhattisgarh that was scheduled for October 7 and 8. The Election Commission of India (ECI) officials were due to travel from Delhi, and the Chhattisgarh poll office later cites “unavoidable reasons” for the rescheduling.

According to reports, the CEC is facing criticism over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Multiple outlets note opposition protests seeking his removal or resignation during the period leading up to the visit. Mint also says the itinerary included stops at the Danteshwari Mata temple in Dantewada district, the Chitrakoot waterfall in Bastar, and the Bhoramdev temple in Kawardha.

While the outlets agree on the postponement and the underlying controversy, they differ slightly in emphasis: some foreground the opposition’s demand for his removal, while others focus on the official explanation for the change in schedule.
