South Korean megachurches are investigating suspected cyberattacks that may have exposed personal information of hundreds of thousands of congregants. Seoul’s Yoido Full Gospel Church says data on about 850,000 members could be compromised, while another megachurch is also reviewing evidence of unauthorized access.

Multiple outlets report that cybersecurity investigators found signs that AI tools may have been used to support the intrusion, based on available data, attack records, and account-related information. The churches have not publicly released details of how the breach occurred or which systems were affected.

The reports also place the incidents in a broader context of recent cyberattacks targeting South Korean organizations, including prior breaches involving commercial banks that resulted in customers’ personal data being exposed. Investigators and the churches are continuing to assess the scope of the attacks, the type of data involved, and whether additional systems or accounts were impacted.
