Moldova’s planned high-voltage electricity link with Romania is set to be named the “Trump Liberty Line,” according to the US embassy in Chisinau. The proposed project is described as a new 70 km connection that aims to enhance Moldova’s electricity infrastructure and strengthen cross-border energy ties.

Outlets report that the naming is linked to US support for the initiative, with the US embassy citing the project as one of several infrastructure efforts to carry Donald Trump’s name. Some coverage also notes the wider purpose of improving energy security and reliability for Moldova, including better connectivity with neighbouring Romania. A separate report adds that the initiative benefits from US government investment estimated at $130 million, and that Moldova backs the plan in part for its role in energy security. The line is expected to be built as part of the countries’ broader efforts to modernise and diversify energy connections in the region.
