South Korea’s Supreme Court finalizes a life sentence for a man convicted of killing his own son and attempting to kill others during a birthday gathering. The court upholds earlier rulings that found him guilty of murder, attempted murder, and violating the firearms control law.
The shooting takes place at the victim’s home in Incheon, west of Seoul, in July 2025. The man fatally shoots his 33-year-old son and attempts to kill four others at the scene, including his daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. According to the legal sources cited, the court also orders that if the defendant is ever released, he must wear an electronic tracking device for 20 years.
Outlets describe the case as involving a homemade firearm and note that the defendant reportedly planned the attack well in advance. Reports say he started preparations around August 2024 after his former wife and their son stopped providing financial support. The man is also described as suffering from a delusion that his ex-wife and son were trying to isolate him from others.
