Nigerian Army forces repel an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military position in Kukawa, Borno State, with authorities saying the attackers suffer heavy casualties. Reports say the troops, part of Operation Hadin Kai, respond and recover weapons and ammunition after the assault.
Vanguard and The Punch both describe the operation as successfully repelled, with more than 25 ISWAP fighters reportedly killed. Vanguard adds that at least 14 bodies are recovered so far. Nigerian Eye provides further detail, saying the insurgents launch a coordinated attack from four directions on the 101 Special Forces Battalion, but soldiers, supported by the Air Component, overwhelm the attackers. It also notes seizures including AK-47 rifles and other ammunition. Across outlets, the Army credits joint air-ground coordination and says it continues intelligence-led operations to pressure terrorist networks in Nigeria’s north-east, while acknowledging some soldiers lose their lives during the encounter.
