FIFA’s inaugural Women’s Club World Cup is set to be played from 5 to 30 January 2028, creating a significant disruption to the Women’s Super League (WSL) calendar for English clubs. Reports say Arsenal and potentially Chelsea would miss large parts of the domestic season during that window, potentially leaving them away from multiple WSL rounds.

The Guardian reports that the tournament is planned for 5–30 January and that the timing would overlap with the middle of the 2027–28 WSL season, as well as the FA Cup fourth round. It also notes that the competition is expected to be awarded to the United States, meaning travel could add additional scheduling and recovery pressures for European teams.

Across the outlets, the central focus is the same: FIFA has approved the new tournament and its proposed dates are likely to remove participating clubs from roughly a month of domestic football. Other reporting adds that qualification details are not yet fully confirmed, but the dates alone are already being viewed as a major fixture-congestion risk for the WSL.
