Gunmen allegedly open fire on the convoy of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Edo Central senatorial candidate Herberta Okonofua and ADC chieftain Kenneth Imasuangbon in Igueben Local Government Area, Edo State, on Tuesday. Reports say the candidates escape unhurt, but an ADC supporter, Jerry Oliha, is shot and taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital, where doctors are treating him.

The ADC attributes the attack to suspected political thugs and alleges the attackers are linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the Igueben local government chairman, Endurance Azemegbe, led the assailants. The party also claims it is the third attack on the same entourage that day, following earlier shootings in other wards. Azemegbe denies involvement, saying he was not in Igueben when the incident occurred and will investigate. Edo State Police spokesperson ASP Eno Ikoedem says the command has not confirmed the incident and will act once it is formally reported.
