The Income Tax Department conducts searches at the Mumbai offices of Prime Focus Ltd, a company linked to Ramayana producer Namit Malhotra, along with sites connected to the firm’s auditor and some individuals. Multiple outlets report the raids take place ahead of the release of Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part film “Ramayana,” which is scheduled for a Diwali release.

According to reporting, officials focus on suspected irregularities related to foreign remittances and related financial documentation. Prime Focus confirms in regulatory filings that searches are initiated under the Income Tax Act, and says it is cooperating and providing documents and clarifications. The company also says it cannot comment on the subject matter because no findings have been communicated.

Outlets also note the searches affect Prime Focus’ share price on the day of the action, with at least one report describing a drop of around 8%. Free Press Journal adds that investigators attribute the action to an ongoing probe and references earlier raids at other film-related premises, while stating no official finding of wrongdoing has been issued. Prime Focus says business operations continue as usual and that it will make further disclosures if material developments arise.
