Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav releases two cheetahs—male Vyom and female Neera—into the Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve (VDTR) in Sagar district. The state’s cheetah reintroduction programme adds the reserve as its third official habitat in Madhya Pradesh, following earlier introductions in other protected areas.
The Hindu and Free Press Journal report that Kuno National Park in Sheopur and Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary in Mandsaur are the other two cheetah sites, with the VDTR in Bundelkhand completing the set. PravdaReport adds that the state positions the expansion as a move toward a more distributed habitat model beyond earlier experimental containment.
In addition to ecological steps, PravdaReport says the state is pairing conservation with local livelihood support through revenue sharing from sanctuary income. It reports that ₹80 crore is collected this year from sanctuaries, with ₹20 crore already disbursed to surrounding village communities. Other outlets focus mainly on the release and habitat designation details, including arrangements for adapting the cheetahs.
