Meta is introducing new AI tools aimed at detecting advertisements that appear normal but direct users to child sexual abuse material elsewhere online. The company says it has identified evolving tactics that offenders use to evade existing detection systems, and is expanding its detection and enforcement measures across its platforms.
Separately, Meta reports that in India it acted on 5.3 million pieces of child abuse content in 2026, with more than 98% found through proactive detection. An additional development reported by outlets is that Meta begins direct reporting to India’s I4C framework for relevant content. Times of India also notes that India’s government has told Meta it cannot rely on intermediary status alone and must take greater responsibility, after Meta acknowledged earlier lapses in handling such material.
Across the coverage, outlets focus on Meta’s technical response (new AI tools), the scale of removals and proactive detection in India, and regulatory pressure prompting more direct compliance steps.
