The Bihar government directs state employees to undertake mandatory visits to tourist destinations within the state every three months with their families and submit reports to officials, according to multiple outlets. A letter dated May 20, issued to departmental heads, divisional commissioners, district magistrates and senior police officers, is attributed to Additional Chief Secretary (General Administration) B. Rajender.
Under the directive, employees are asked to travel to tourist, eco-tourism or rural tourism destinations in districts other than their home districts and spend two days and two nights at the destinations. The travel is planned for Fridays and Saturdays. During each visit, employees are expected to visit and stay overnight at at least three tourist spots.
Employees are required to submit documentation of their visits, including personal experiences and details of the destinations covered. Reporting also includes photographs, which officials can use to assess and potentially strengthen efforts to promote tourism sites. The order frames Bihar as having cultural, environmental and historically significant attractions that could be developed further as tourism hubs.
