Rivian is rolling out a new software feature called Pet Cam for its R2, allowing owners to monitor a pet left in the vehicle using a live video stream through the Rivian app. Multiple outlets report that the feature also supports lock-screen viewing on a phone, aimed at making it easier to check on pets without unlocking the phone.

The update is described as part of software version 2026.36. Alongside Pet Cam, sources say Rivian is adding other functionality to the R2, including an AI assistant feature referred to as the “Rivian Assistant,” which arrives several months after the SUV’s launch. Rivian’s approach differs by model: while the R2 gets live Pet Cam, the R1T and R1S reportedly receive updated remote Pet Mode controls rather than the same live-stream capability.

Some coverage also notes that, if owners prefer not to watch continuously, the system can send periodic status photos to a phone instead of requiring a live feed.
