Para-shooters protesting India’s team selection for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Para Asian Games allege financial corruption, extortion and manipulation of quota and qualifying scores. Several athletes staged a demonstration at a send-off event, while asking for an urgent independent inquiry into the selection process by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) and its Shooting Technical Committee (STC).

In a representation to the Director General of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the shooters claim athletes were pressured to pay a “20%” kickback or commission linked to sanctioned government cash awards as a precondition for selection. They also allege international quota wild-card allocations and qualifying scores were handled in ways that advantaged certain competitors, including claims that some quota spots were effectively surrendered after athletes refused the alleged demands.

PCI president Devendra Jhajharia rejects the allegations, saying the selection is transparent and based solely on the Sports Ministry’s prescribed criteria, with “no discrimination.” The athletes warn they may seek legal remedies, including approaching a court for a monitored investigation if their complaints are not addressed.
