West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announces multiple new welfare measures and regulatory steps. The government will provide subsidised fish-rice meals priced at Rs 5 through 400 canteens. In addition, under the Annapurna Yojana, it plans to extend monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,000 to women. The announcements also include steps related to liquor regulations, with liquor shops set to be restricted near educational institutions and religious places, including a proposed distance of up to one kilometre from such sites.
Alongside the food and cash-support initiatives, the government says it will set up an AYUSH department, addressing health-related administration. The overall package is presented as part of the state government’s welfare and governance agenda, combining targeted assistance for women and access to affordable meals with tighter enforcement around the placement of liquor outlets near schools and temples.
