Deloitte is fined roughly £6m by the UK accounting watchdog over audit failures connected to the rail operator Go-Ahead Group. The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) says Deloitte’s audit work did not meet required standards, citing a sustained pattern of problems across multiple years.
According to reporting from multiple outlets, the FRC characterises the issues as “highly concerning” and points to Deloitte’s failure to challenge Go-Ahead’s treatment of money retained for an extended period. One outlet specifies that the retention involved more than £30m of public funds, which the watchdog says should have been questioned by the auditor.
Outlets differ slightly on phrasing and the timeframe described by the regulator—some referring to a five-year period and others to four years—but all describe the same core finding: the watchdog concludes Deloitte did not sufficiently challenge key accounting decisions during the audits of Go-Ahead. The articles frame the fine as enforcement action following the FRC’s review.
