Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta makes a surprise evening visit to Delhi University’s North Campus, speaking directly with students—especially women—about safety concerns related to travel at night, hostels and campus facilities.

During the inspection, Gupta identifies multiple dark spots and says some areas inside the campus lack adequate lighting despite lighting on nearby roads. She also orders officials to address damaged or uneven footpaths, including repairs that take accessibility needs for students with disabilities into account, and to prune foliage that blocks illumination. She directs a campus-wide re-check of sensitive areas such as the Arts Faculty, Law Faculty, Science Faculty and parking zones.

Gupta also reviews CCTV arrangements, asking how many cameras are installed, which are functional, and where additional coverage is needed. She instructs that no sensitive area should be left outside surveillance. Students tell her women police personnel are deployed at night and that PCR vehicles respond quickly when required, and she stresses coordination between the police and university administration. Additional directives cover cleaning and maintenance. Gupta says the Delhi government is working on a PG policy and improving hostel facilities, and encourages women students to consider self-defence training. Sources report that officials plan compliance reviews following the visit.
