Amazon founder Jeff Bezos says AI advancements could reduce the number of hours families need to work. In an interview, he argues that higher productivity from AI may allow some dual-income households to shift to a single earner, with people potentially working fewer days—such as a three-day workweek—depending on financial needs. He presents the idea as a possibility that families could choose based on circumstances.

Bezos also addresses concerns about job losses tied to AI. He rejects the view that AI will automatically cause large-scale unemployment and instead points to other factors behind recent staffing changes at Amazon. According to the reports, he attributes Amazon job cuts to hiring that happened rapidly during the Covid-19 pandemic, rather than to AI itself. While he acknowledges that there may be an “AI bubble,” he maintains that the technology remains valuable and that the productivity gains could change how work is structured.
