Nigeria’s main labour union, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), issues a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government demanding urgent action on petrol prices and wages. The NLC says it expects the government to cut Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) prices and begin negotiations on the national minimum wage.

Across outlets, the NLC communicates its demands through a communiqué signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero after meetings of its National Executive Council and Central Working Committee. Vanguard reports the union also wants petrol returned to the level it was at before the 2024 price change, arguing current costs make basic necessities unaffordable for workers. Multiple reports also note the NLC ties its wages demand to a timeline for starting new minimum wage discussions, warning that failure to meet the demands could prompt further labour action.
