Texas thrash band Power Trip releases its first new music since the death of frontman Riley Gale. The band shares the double single “Precinct 3” and “Scavenger,” which arrives ahead of its third album. Rolling Stone reports the tracks mark the group’s first release with singer Seth Gilmore.
Across outlets, the context centers on how Gilmore became the band’s vocalist. Stereogum notes that after Gale’s sudden death in 2020 at age 34, guitarist Blake Ibanez formed Fugitive. In 2023, Power Trip reunited for a surprise Austin show, with Gilmore—then associated with Fugitive and Skourge—taking Gale’s place. Stereogum adds that the band later settles a legal dispute with Gale’s family, after which Gilmore officially became Power Trip’s singer. Consequence frames the announcement as a streamable release of the two new songs.
