Nvidia is retiring the classic GeForce Windows Control Panel after about 20 years, replacing it with its newer, more unified “NVIDIA app.” Multiple outlets report that Nvidia has already migrated the Control Panel’s main features into the newer application and is now officially ending active development of the legacy panel. Nvidia states that existing Control Panel installations are not removed immediately and will remain on systems that already have it. However, the company says the Control Panel will disappear only after a clean driver installation, rather than being removed automatically from all devices.
For users who still need the older panel, Nvidia indicates it can continue to be downloaded from the Microsoft Store, but it will no longer receive new features, fixes, or other updates. Ars Technica and The Verge also note that Nvidia previously began this transition more than two years ago while bringing Control Panel functionality into the newer app.
Slashdot adds that the retirement currently applies to Game Ready and Studio Driver users, while professional RTX PRO support continues for now, with Nvidia planning to move professional functionality into the NVIDIA app later.
