The outlets note that Smith’s 10,945 runs come in 224 innings across 126 Tests, while Waugh finished with 10,927 runs in 260 innings across 168 Tests. Ricky Ponting leads the Australian list with 13,378 Test runs, followed by Allan Border with 11,174. With two Tests remaining in the series, Smith is reported as still within striking distance of Border for second place.
