Nigerian singer, filmmaker and politician Bankole Wellington, known as Banky W, says his defeat in Nigeria’s 2023 House of Representatives election pushed him to rethink his path and turn to pastoral work. He describes being heartbroken by the outcome, but says the experience also leads him to seek “God’s direction” and reflect on his purpose.
Banky W shared the account in posts marking his first anniversary with Union Church. He says he initially struggled to decide what came next—whether to continue focusing on politics, entertainment, business or ministry—but concluded that he does not have to choose only one. He now serves as an associate pastor, and is also involved as a teacher and leader at Union College.
The reports also note that Banky W relocated with his family to the United States in 2024 to further his studies in public administration. In the 2023 election, he contested the Eti-Osa federal constituency seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lost to Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party (LP).
