Gail Lerner, who co-created NBC’s upcoming sitcom “Newlyweds,” says she has been fired from her role as showrunner ahead of the show’s premiere. Lerner announced the change in a social media post, expressing that she is “so sad,” while also saying she is proud of the sitcom she created with Jamie Lee Curtis.
NBC’s series, which stars Tèa Leoni and Tim Daly, is set to debut later this month. Multiple outlets report a behind-the-scenes shakeup involving Lerner’s departure despite the series not yet having premiered. The co-creator is described as a veteran comedy figure who previously worked on NBC’s “Will & Grace,” and the news adds uncertainty about who will oversee the show’s final production stages before it airs.
