Coal India shares fall after the government announces an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 2% of the company’s equity. According to reports, the stake sale is conducted at a floor price of Rs 412 per share, which is set at about a 10% discount to the prior closing price (Rs 458.15 on NSE in one report; Rs 458.25 on BSE in another). The OFS involves a base offer of 1% equity, comprising about 6.16 crore shares, with an additional 1% “Green Shoe” option available in case of oversubscription, taking the total potential offer size to about 12.32 crore shares (2%). At the floor price, the sale is expected to raise roughly Rs 5,000 crore for the exchequer. The sale schedule opens for non-retail investors on May 27 and for retail investors on May 29, with the market closed on May 28 for Bakrid. Coal India says the promoter sale is executed through a separate window mechanism on both the BSE and the NSE in line with Securities and Exchange Board of India OFS guidelines. Following the announcement, Coal India shares decline over 6% in early trading.
