The Louvre’s 2025 jewel heist, in which thieves stole jewelry worth about US$100 million, is being adapted for the screen, a French publisher said. The project is based on the investigative book “Main basse sur le Louvre” (“A grab at the Louvre”), which is written by three journalists from French outlets including Le Parisien and Le Monde and the magazine Paris Match. French director Romain Gavras is attached to develop the film, according to multiple reports. Film rights to the book were sold to the production company Iconoclast, and the publisher also said rights for a documentary series were acquired by a British producer.
The heist took place on October 19, 2025. Authorities arrest some of the main suspects, and an investigation is ongoing, but the stolen jewels are still not recovered. Sources also describe how the theft triggered a security crisis at the museum, contributing to a change in leadership, including the replacement of director Laurence des Cars. Reports say the film is in development, with no announced title or cast yet.
