A journalist is shot dead in Mexico, with reports identifying the killing as happening in Oaxaca state. Human rights NGO Article 19 says it is the ninth journalist or media professional killed in the country this year, adding to a pattern of attacks that outlets link to gunmen operating in the region.
Accounts across the reports describe the victim as the owner of a news website and note that he had a sizable online following. One outlet also names the journalist as Hamurabi Huesca Manzano. While all sources agree on the death occurring in Oaxaca and the “ninth this year” count attributed to the NGO, they differ on the amount of identifying detail provided beyond the location and the victim’s media role.
