Russian forces strike all three of Kyiv’s main combined heat and power (CHP) plants, stopping their electricity generation, according to multiple outlets. Ekonomichna Pravda, citing reporting, says CHP-5, CHP-6 and the Darnytsia CHP are no longer producing power after attacks. The damage leaves the city more dependent on electricity and heat supplies from other regions.
Outlets also describe Kyiv’s ongoing response efforts. Ukrainska Pravda reports the Kyiv mayor, Vitali Klitschko, says the city has prepared hundreds of backup units, including nearly 700 generators, 70 mobile boiler units and three diesel power stations, to help maintain heating and water services. The prime minister, Serhii Koretskyi, says ballistic missiles hit all three CHP plants and other critical infrastructure across Kyiv Oblast. Ukrainska Pravda adds that the attacks on Kyiv’s two main CHPs have occurred almost 50 times this year. The extent of winter disruptions is described as depending on further strikes, repairs and available transmission capacity.
