The Cell C Sharks 10bet Lions face a challenging start to their inaugural Investec/Champions Cup campaign as they play French powerhouses La Rochelle at Stade Marcel-Deflandre in France. All outlets describe the match as the Lions’ first taste of Champions Cup rugby and frame it as a difficult test against a team with recent success in the competition.
Reports note that La Rochelle are former double champions, with the Lions drawing an early high-pressure fixture on foreign soil. South African coverage highlights the atmosphere and the away context, including coach Loubscher’s comments about the need to “level up” and silence the crowd. While the outlets agree on the matchup and stakes, their emphasis varies between the “baptism of fire” framing and coach-led motivation heading into the opener.
