Brooklyn’s district attorney’s office and the FBI disrupt a cryptocurrency fraud network that targets Russian-speaking residents in the United States. According to reports, Russian-speaking Brooklyn residents began contacting local authorities about the scheme years ago, prompting an investigation that ultimately leads to action against servers and websites used to run the scams.

Outlets report that authorities seize 112 servers and shut down 241 websites tied to the fraud operation. The scams are described as investment fraud that steals money from victims, with reporting citing tens of millions of dollars taken. One account notes the move also disrupts the network’s back-end infrastructure, which supports the scam’s operations.

While all sources agree on the scale of the takedown and the focus on Russian-speaking victims, their emphasis differs: one stresses the role of community tips in initiating the investigation, while others focus on the number of sites removed, the servers seized, and the operational infrastructure being taken down.
