Apple updates its “vintage and obsolete products” list, adding the final 12-inch MacBook (2017) model to the obsolete category. Outlets also report Apple adds the sixth-generation iPad and certain BeatsX headphone colorways. Once listed as obsolete, Apple does not provide hardware service for affected products through Apple Stores or authorized service providers.

Apple’s criteria focus on how long it has been since the product last was distributed for sale, including to resellers—generally using a seven-year threshold to classify products as obsolete. Apple instructs service providers to discontinue hardware service for obsolete items and generally prevents them from ordering required parts. However, Apple notes that MacBook batteries may still be eligible for replacement for up to 10 years after distribution ends, depending on parts availability.
