Epic Games announces that Fortnite will be released for Linux after it rebuilds its Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) system for Linux environments. Outlets report that Epic’s effort is aimed at addressing long-standing concerns about reliably detecting and mitigating cheating across the range of Linux kernel configurations.

The coverage also notes additional planned changes around EAC’s Linux integration. Phoronix reports Epic is working on an anti-cheat systemd service and using eBPF to improve how EAC operates on Linux. Separately, Epic also discusses moving toward a Linux-capable Epic Games Launcher. PC Gamer and Rock Paper Shotgun add that Steam Deck support is not expected in the near term, even as Linux support progresses.
