The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrests Anil Kumar, executive director of Munitions India Limited (MIL), along with two others, in a bribery case involving alleged leaks of defence procurement information. The CBI says the accused sought or accepted illegal payments in exchange for extending official favours and disclosing sensitive information related to defence production and procurement.
According to reports, CBI carried out searches at multiple locations, including Pune, and recovered cash and incriminating documents from the accused’s properties. One outlet reports total recoveries of about Rs 2.2 crore, including Rs 1.73 crore in cash from one premises and additional amounts from other locations. The FIR cited by one outlet alleges that Kumar maintained contact with private contractors/vendors and received a bribe connected to an official ammunition contract. Allegations also include alleged routing of illicit proceeds through relatives to conceal corruption.
Outlets broadly agree on the arrests, the nature of the allegations, and the cash and document recoveries, while differing mainly in the locations searched and the exact cash figures reported.
