A South Korean court sentences a manufacturing company owner to three years in prison for severely injuring a migrant worker after using an industrial air gun. The Suwon District Court rules the case involves aggravated bodily injury and violations of the Labor Standards Act.
According to reports, the incident happens on Feb. 20 at a factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. Prosecutors say the owner placed the nozzle of the high-pressure air gun against the anal area of a Thai man, identified in coverage as C, and discharged it for about seven seconds. The worker suffers serious injuries, including a traumatic rectal perforation that requires emergency treatment and surgery.
Outlets also describe allegations that the owner threatened the worker during or after the assault by referencing police and the worker’s undocumented immigration status. Yonhap and other coverage report that the court dismisses charges against the owner’s wife, who was accused of intimidation, while sentencing the owner. The sentencing reflects the court’s assessment of the harm caused and the related labor law violations.
