Zydus Sunshine Lifesciences, a joint venture of Zydus Lifesciences, signs an agreement with Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment (BOI) for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility worth $20 million. The investment is described as part of efforts to expand the JV’s international footprint and to strengthen local pharmaceutical production capacity.
Multiple outlets report that the plant will be set up in a BOI zone in Horana and will be developed on a site of nearly four acres. The project is expected to support Sri Lanka’s medicine supply chains and improve availability of essential drugs. The investment is planned in phases, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2028, subject to regulatory approvals. Initial production is expected to focus on oral solid dosage forms for the Sri Lankan market.
The companies link the initiative to the broader goals of the JV, which was formed with Sunshine Healthcare (part of Sunshine Holdings PLC) and signed the BOI agreement in October 2026, according to company filings.
