Riot Games announces that League of Legends Classic will end as an ongoing game mode, with operations set to stop at the conclusion of Season 3 in 2026. The company says it is doing so because player engagement is lower than expected, pointing to shifts in where players spend their time within League of Legends.

Multiple outlets report the shutdown comes only about three months after the mode’s launch. Riot says League of Legends Classic will remain available until the end of Season 3, after which the mode is taken down. In the lead-up to the closure, Riot plans changes including matchmaking adjustments and updates to the Battle Pass. It also says additional classic champions will continue to be added through upcoming patches up to the end of the mode’s run, and that the Classic format will be revisited in a different form—returning as an event rather than a permanent mode.
