The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) issues subpoenas to the five hosts of the podcast “Machong Chismisan” after an episode drew backlash for mocking Joshua “Josh” Aquino, the son of actress Kris Aquino, who is on the autism spectrum. The comments described Josh Aquino as “walang kwenta (useless).” The episode is later taken down.

NBI director Melvin Matibag says two of the hosts, including the main speaker, have already received their subpoenas, and the hosts are told to appear before the NBI on Oct. 20. Outlets report that the NBI’s action is part of an investigation into the hosts’ remarks, which critics considered derogatory toward a person with a disability. While coverage largely focuses on the subpoena and the date of appearance, each outlet reiterates the same core allegation: the podcast hosts made disparaging statements about Josh Aquino.
