A UK care home deputy manager, Rebecca Louise Burwood, is struck off after being found to have exploited a 99-year-old pensioner and taken about £750,000. Multiple reports say the funds were taken from the victim over a period spanning 2017 to 2023.
The stolen money is reported to have been spent on items including cosmetic or plastic surgery, as well as home extensions, luxury vehicles and a camper van. Outlets describe the victim as vulnerable and focus on how Burwood allegedly manipulated or swindled her to gain access to her savings.
While the outlets differ slightly on the exact total reported—some cite £750,000 and others £770,000—they agree on the core allegations: Burwood’s role at Bryn Yr Haul Care Home in Mold, North East Wales; the long-running nature of the alleged misconduct; and the use of the money for personal expenditure rather than the pensioner’s care. The decision results in her removal from the nursing register.
