Organisers of the Shree Keshav Ram Leela in Pitampura, Delhi plan to burn a 30-foot effigy of a “cockroach” alongside the traditional effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad on Dussehra 2026. The committee says the insect symbolises “filth and dirt” and is meant to convey the message of cleanliness as part of the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Delhi campaigns.

Multiple outlets note the decision is taking place amid public political protests linked to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Mint and others say CJP protests in Delhi and other cities form part of the backdrop, while the committee president, Ashok Goel, and a BJP MLA deny the plan is politically motivated. Times of India adds that the event frames the effigy as representing a victory of good over evil and cleanliness over negative elements, while also featuring the cockroach in Ravan’s army in the larger Ramlila narrative.
