Russia plans to prohibit direct peer-to-peer (P2P) cryptocurrency trades between individuals starting July 1, 2027, according to reporting citing the Central Bank of Russia. Until then, Russians can buy and sell crypto directly with each other. After the deadline, transactions are required to be routed through brokers or exchanges approved by the Bank of Russia.

The outlets differ mainly on emphasis and potential workarounds. One report notes that the ban targets direct person-to-person dealings, while existing rules already restrict certain transfers involving digital accounts and self-custody wallets. Another outlet adds that enforcement challenges could include attempts to disguise direct sales as other forms of transfer, such as personal gifts or debt repayments, though the overarching requirement remains that trades go through approved intermediaries.
