The Bombay High Court orders that restrictions on bursting firecrackers on public roads, streets and footpaths apply throughout the year and across all festivals. The court extends an earlier September 22, 2026 order, which had limited the restriction to festival periods and public roads ahead of the Ganesh festivities.

In its directions, the bench cites concerns about noise and air pollution during celebrations and says the issue persists after major festivals. The court also clarifies that it does not ban the manufacture or sale of firecrackers, nor does it restrict festive activities broadly—only the public-road bursting practices already covered by the court’s order.

The court directs the Maharashtra government, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to intensify public awareness, including notices through newspapers and social media, school programmes, public announcements and display boards at transport locations. It also asks authorities to set up a mechanism for reporting violations, potentially using an app-based grievance system or other facilities, and mentions the need for properly calibrated noise-measuring tools.
