Independent film distributor and studio Bleecker Street is being acquired by Outerlight Entertainment, a media investment firm formerly known as First Look Entertainment. The deal’s financial terms are not disclosed. Bleecker Street is associated with Alex Gibney’s documentary “Musk,” which is in release, and with the company’s broader slate of independent projects.

Across the reports, Outerlight is described as being backed by billionaire Pierre Omidyar. After the acquisition, Bleecker CEO Kent Sanderson remains in his role and continues to lead Bleecker Street independently. Variety and other outlets also note that Bleecker Street’s president and chief marketing officer, Tyler DiNapoli, will continue with the company under the new ownership structure.

The outlets further characterize Outerlight’s corporate setup: Hollywood Reporter notes it is now structured as a newly named holding firm and also houses “Club Kid” producers Topic Studios. Deadline adds background on Bleecker Street’s origins, saying it was founded in 2014 by the late film executive Andrew Karpen.
