Two women file a federal civil lawsuit in Florida accusing former US Rep. Matt Gaetz of participating in a sex trafficking scheme involving drugs and travel. The suit, filed in the Middle District of Florida, names Gaetz and two other men as defendants and alleges a coordinated effort to recruit and exploit young women between 2017 and 2019.
The women, identified in reporting as “Jane Doe 1” and “Jane Doe 2,” allege they were provided controlled substances, subjected to sexual acts, and transported across state lines to locations including Miami, Las Vegas, the Florida Keys and New York. Reporting also links one of the other defendants, Joel Greenberg, to related criminal proceedings, and the lawsuit alleges payments and expenses connected to the alleged conduct. Some outlets describe the arrangement as involving “payments, drugs and travel.”
Gaetz denies wrongdoing and says he will contest the allegations in court. Outlets also situate the new lawsuit within a broader, long-running sexual misconduct controversy around Gaetz, noting he resigned from Congress in 2024 amid prior allegations and has previously disputed claims attributed to him.
