PLS Group has approved a substantial expansion of its Pilgangoora lithium mine near Port Hedland in Western Australia. Multiple outlets report the project is valued at about $1.9 billion and is intended to significantly increase output, with coverage saying it would make the operation the world’s largest hard-rock lithium mine.

Alongside the company’s investment decision, Western Australia provides state support for related infrastructure. The state government is reported to invest $11 million to upgrade the Wodgina Access Road, a freight route linking the Pilgangoora area with the Great Northern Highway and Port Hedland.

Different outlets emphasize different aspects: some focus on the scale and global positioning of the mining expansion, while others highlight the state’s role in enabling freight logistics through road improvements. Business-focused reporting also frames the approval as a major step in expanding capacity at Pilgangoora, while local news describes the transportation upgrade backing the development.
